Our Journey to the Osaka Expo Commemoration Event
This summer, I had the incredible honor of participating in the Osaka Expo 2025 Commemoration Event, held in the Senshu region of Osaka, Japan. It was an experience that brought together talented chefs, students, and local producers to celebrate the rich culinary heritage of the area—and to share it with the world.
As the owner of SUZUYA Patisserie in Las Vegas, my mission has always been to connect cultures through food. When I was invited to join this event, it felt like a dream come true. The event was centered on showcasing the very best ingredients from Senshu, including its world-class produce and traditional flavors, and we had the privilege of creating desserts and sweets that reflected this incredible bounty.
One of the highlights was working with pastry students from Osaka Culinary School. Together, we crafted unique creations that represented both Japanese tradition and modern innovation. For example, we used Kanechika peaches, famous for holding the Guinness World Record for sweetness, to create a refreshing kakigori—a perfect summer treat for the hot Osaka weather. We also developed omiyage (souvenir sweets), such as Matcha Castella made with premium matcha from Tsuboichi, and a delicate marshmallow filled with fig pâte de fruit to honor the beautiful Senshu figs. Another standout was a creative edamame cookie sandwich, combining traditional flavors with a modern twist.
This experience was more than just making desserts; it was about cultural exchange, learning, and building bridges between Japan and the U.S. I am deeply grateful to the event organizers, Osaka Culinary School, and the local producers for allowing me to be a part of something so meaningful. It reaffirmed my belief that food is a universal language—one that brings joy, connection, and understanding across borders.
As we look back on Osaka Expo 2025, I am inspired to continue sharing the beauty of Japanese flavors with our community in Las Vegas. Thank you to everyone who supports SUZUYA; your love for our creations makes moments like this possible.
Stay tuned—we have more exciting things coming your way soon!
